Canary District
Canary District is a master-planned LEED Gold community designed to promote sustainability and green living. The neighbourhood features the 82,000 sq. ft. Cooper Koo Family YMCA, George Brown College's first student residence, and the health-focused Front Street Promenade. The Canary District is an active, growing community connected to the 18-acre Corktown Common park, nearby trails, the Distillery District, Leslieville, and downtown Toronto.
History
The Canary District originated as the host of the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games Athletes Village. In fact, several condo buildings in the area were built as accessible residences to accommodate the Parapan Am athletes, and remain that way today. The 35-acre master-planned Canary District in the West Don Lands now infuses new energy and vitality into Toronto's downtown east.

During the first phase of redevelopment, 805 units of market housing and 257 units of affordable housing were to be built. Currently the Canary District is home to several mid-rise buildings, including condos, townhouses and affordable rental housing. While the community is mostly built out, there is a new development currently underway.
