History
King West began as part of the Military Reserves of the Town of York, the predecessor to the City of Toronto. In the 1830s, the military auctioned off these reserves, designating the area as a "New Town." The arrival of railway systems in the 1850s transformed the region, quickly developing King West into an industrial and manufacturing hub that bolstered its economic standing. However, by the late 19th century, many industrial and manufacturing plants began relocating, leading to an economic decline in King West. To address this, the City of Toronto implemented the King Spadina Plan, aimed at encouraging new investment and revitalizing the area. This plan sparked a surge in development, with new restaurants, nightclubs, and impressive condominium buildings transforming the area into a highly desirable location.
