Regent Park
With over sixty different first languages spoken, Regent Park stands as one of Toronto’s most culturally diverse neighborhoods. A new chapter in Regent Park’s history is unfolding with a $1 billion revitalization project set to span 15 years. This project is transforming Regent Park into a vibrant community with a mix of market condos, affordable housing units, and dynamic retail and community spaces. The new Regent Park Community Centre serves as the community's hub, offering recreational facilities, an employment center, a teaching kitchen, a community hall, meeting rooms, and a rooftop garden. This center is connected to the Nelson Mandela Park Public School and the Nelson Mandela Child Care Centre. It is also home to one of Toronto’s best indoor pool facilities, the Pam McConnell Aquatic Centre.
History
Regent Park emerged from the remnants of what was once the southern part of the Cabbagetown neighborhood. In the 1930s, South Cabbagetown was among Toronto’s worst slums and became the focus of a major urban renewal initiative by city planners, resulting in the creation of Regent Park. Established in 1949, Regent Park holds the distinction of being Canada’s first public housing project. In the 1950s, Regent Park expanded to include the area south of Gerrard Street, known as Regent Park South.

The housing stock in Regent Park North mainly consists of low-rise walk-up apartments and townhouses. Regent Park South has been heavily redeveloped and features both low and high-rise buildings, including both condos and rent-geared-to-income apartments. Certain pockets of Regent Park also feature century-old row houses.
